An Interview with Lee Duke, Founder of Wacky Walls.
Q1. Lee, what first drew you into creating Wacky Walls?
I’ve always been creative, and I genuinely love all forms of art and the imagination behind every artist’s work. Painting on a flat canvas is incredible, but I wanted to explore something different, to work with textures, depth, and dimension in a way that transforms spaces. Wacky Walls was born out of experimenting with materials and layers, creating pieces people don’t just look at, but experience.
Q2. Where does your inspiration come from?
Everyday life, honestly. Nature, architecture, even random shapes or shadows. I’m fascinated by things that aren’t perfect or predictable. The cracks in a wall, the way water erodes stone, those imperfections spark ideas. And beyond that, there was one artist I came across whose approach to art and the way he positioned himself in the art world truly left a mark on me. He showed me what was possible when you commit fully to your own vision, and that influence sits quietly behind everything I create today.
Q3. Wacky Walls is such a unique name. What does it mean to you?
For me, it represents freedom. Wacky Walls is about breaking the rules, stepping away from perfection, and embracing boldness. It’s unapologetic, even a bit unforgiving, not polished, just pure Wacky. And I’ll be honest, that’s me too. I believe deep down we all have a bit of Wacky in us, but I lean right into mine. I’m unapologetic about it, and I put that energy straight onto the wall. That’s where the magic happens. Each 3D piece I create turns any space into an experience.
Q4. Tell us a bit about your creative process. It’s layered and instinctive.
I start with building depth, using sculptural bases and textures that create shadows and movement. From there, I add color, epoxy finishes, or neon accents depending on the piece. I never want the process to feel rigid; I let the artwork take me where it wants to go.
Q5. How do you see Wacky Walls fitting into modern spaces?
I think we’re moving away from generic, mass-produced décor. People want something bold, something that makes a statement. Wacky Walls isn’t just decoration, it transforms a space into an experience. Whether it’s a home, gallery, or business, my work is designed to spark emotion and conversation.
Q6. What makes your pieces stand out in the art world?
Every Wacky Walls piece has its own character, textures, hidden details, and layers that invite exploration. I aim to create work that draws people in, sparks curiosity, and gives them something unique to experience. It’s about boldness, originality, and the interaction between the viewer and the piece.
Q7. Where do you see Wacky Walls heading in the future?
I want to push further into large-scale installations, gallery showcases, and collaborations with interior designers. I see Wacky Walls in luxury spaces, but also in places where people don’t expect art, spaces that challenge and surprise them. I’d also love to inspire others to experiment with their own creativity, because I genuinely believe we all have the gift to create.
Q8. What do you hope people take away from experiencing Wacky Walls?
For me, it’s about more than just looking at a wall and saying, “That’s nice.” I want people to engage with it, to feel pulled in, to run their hands across the textures, to find those hidden details that only reveal themselves when you slow down and really take it in. If it makes someone stop, breathe, and feel something unexpected, whether that’s awe, curiosity, or even a little chaos, then I’ve done my job.
Ultimately, Wacky Walls isn’t just seen, it’s experienced, felt, and remembered.
